Close to Home

Something happened Sunday that has never happened in our community before - a completely random shooting.

A man, upset over a broken engagement and subsequent fight with his ex-fiance, grabbed two handguns, hopped on a bike, and rode to a bridge in Menasha (about 10 miles north of here) and opened fire on a park bridge that was full of people enjoying a beautiful Sunday evening.

Four people were killed (including the shooter)

One of those killed was an 11 year old girl who attended the christian school in Menasha.  Her father was also killed.  I do not know this family myself but several people I work with know them as close friends.

As stated on the school's facebook page:

We are requesting prayers for the healing of Erin Stoffel, the wife of Jon and mother of Olivia. Please also pray for their two younger children, and everyone else involved in this tragedy.

According to his wife, Jonathan's last words were, "forgive the shooter."
