Zack and I were on our own for this day. I knew I wanted to do this sometime in September. By this time, most vacationers would be gone and the park would be faaaar less busy. At first I thought we would be tied to a weekend because of school...but based on the recent change of plans for schooling, we were free to go any day.
It was pretty much a last minute decision to do it today but here are the reasons today seemed like a good day:
- it was a weekday which meant that annual pass holders would likely be either working or in school.
- I already mentioned that tourist season is pretty much over
- Zack cannot start his schooling until we get a home school letter of intent from the superintendent...which we are waiting on.
- The rain chances were basically 0 which is pretty rare for this time of year.
- Someone was able to take care of Ollie
We planned to arrive about 3:00 and the park closed at 10:00. The first thing I noticed - after paying a ridiculous $17.00 to park - was that no one was directing traffic for parking. Not one single person was anywhere telling cars where to park so after meandering around for a few minutes I found myself at the front of the park in the handicapped area. The handicapped spots were outlined in blue so I found the first available space that was 'normal' and I parked...near enough to walk to the entrance but we took the tram because someone (no names mentioned - but it wasn't me) was just dying for the experience.
Then it was hop on an empty monorail over to the MK.
At first I thought we'd start in Fantasyland but, of course, we arrived just in time for the 3:00 parade so going through the castle was pretty much a no go so we switched gears and darted over to Tomorrowland.
We were able to walk right on Buzz Lightyear, Transit Authority (which is now reverting back to it's original name "people mover'), Carousel of Progress, and then used our fast passes for Space Mountain.
I was so disappointed that the commentary for Transit Authority has changed. Certain things hold so many memories for me and that was one of them.
After Space Mountain we headed over to Fantasyland and went on It's A Small World.
Blurry...but it accurately shows Zack's feelings about the ride |
We ate dinner at the Harbour House. Again I was disappointed that they no longer served their Clam Chowder soup in a bread bowl. The fish with malt vinegar was still yummy though!
We were able to walk right on Haunted Mansion and also Micky's Philharmagic.
Zack humored me by seeing the Hall of Presidents. The last time we were here Obama was not president yet so, despite enjoying the venue in general, we had to endure a speech by Obama - which was pretty much all a lie.
We still had time to kill so I gave Zack a couple choices of things nearby and he chose Jungle Cruise...we both would have loved to go on Pirates of the Caribbean but it was closed for refurbishment... pretty sure they just refurbished it a few years ago???
By this time we were able to use our fast passes for Thunder Mountain
and then...things took a turn downhill. Up until this point things had been perfect (with the exception of Pirates of the Caribbean). We used our fast passes for Splash Mountain, walked through the queue, and then stopped and waited...and waited...and waited.
20 minutes later they announced it was being shut down due to technical difficulties. I was disappointed but felt worse for the stand-by people who had just waited an hour and a half for nothing...at least for us it was only 20 minutes.
Zack, on the other hand, put this at a DEFCON 1! Pretty much the worst thing that could happen to him at the moment. So we decided, since he does not really want to go to EPCOT that he will go back to the MK for his day three and he can ride it then.
Zack and I split up then and I settled for Winnie the Pooh (since the line for Peter Pan was still too long) while he went on Space Mountain two more times.
We left about 9:00. All in all we had a great day.
