This and That

Whoa...people...we are but a week away from May!   With no school on Friday and no school on May 26 or 29, we have 25 days left of school!!!   Just letting that sink in a bit.

I feel as if my life lately is one week on rewind.  Teaching, tutoring, and collapsing into bed on Saturday afternoons for a 3 hour nap.  This leaves little time for much else.  One thing I have enjoyed though is C.J. coming over once a week to watch a couple episodes of Breaking Bad.  We've been watching it for probably close to 9 months now and Thursday we watched the final two episodes. The first couple seasons were good, the third season was better, but the last two seasons were amazing!  And I'm sad that it is over.

Zack has just finished his junior year Social Studies class and is within a couple assignments of finishing his junior year English class.  So far he has all A's and B's but is currently getting a C in his Math class.   He will be working all summer in his Math and Science classes to get caught up since he still has yet to begin segment (semester) 2 in each of those subjects.

But don't feel bad for him...he has quite the life doing school whenever he wants to.

And finally just one more school meme...because I feel like I could say this about 10x a day.

How Is It April Already?

Yesterday I decided to check how much time is left until the end of the school year...7 weeks!   7 freaking weeks!

When I look at the growth of my kids, for some reason, I don't get the same satisfaction I used to get when looking at my 4th graders.  Yet, I know they have grown.  At the beginning of the year I had 2 students who could not read.  Now, one of them is reading on grade level and the other, while still below level, has made some amazing progress.  I have been blessed with the ability to nurture and foster growth in those below level students.  So much so that, in the past four weeks, I have gained an additional 5 students from the other 2nd grade (for reading only) who were not showing sufficient progress.  The other 2nd grade teacher is a good teacher, it's just that she has been blessed with the ability to work with gifted students.  Anyway, now I have 7 weeks to see if I can bring about any growth in these 5 students.

There will be no Stanley Cup for the Lightning this year.  Coming off back to back years of deep playoff appearances, this year they did not even make the playoffs. They made a good run at the end but just couldn't dig themselves out of the hole they had dug.   I'm pretty disappointed I will not be able to go to a playoff game this year but also thinking of all the money I will save.  Maybe next year, Lightning!

Not much else going on here -we are yawn city party of two.

I'm Still Alive - But Barely

This was a long, difficult week with working both jobs every single day!   I cannot do that too often so if I continue to get scheduled like that, I will have to say something.

I still have not even been able to pick up my new car because - no time!

Today there was no reprieve either as I had to work and then we had dinner plans.  My aunt and uncle from Wisconsin are visiting Tampa Bay so we met them about half way between Tampa and Orlando at a Cracker Barrel in Lakeland.

It was one of the worst experiences I have had at a Cracker Barrel.  My uncle had asked for his burger plain and it came to the table with everything on it so she had to take it back and fix it.  We all got our entree's without fries because they had run out and were frying some more (we got them about 10 minutes later),my shrimp and corn were coldish,  and Zack's chicken and fries meal looked like it was a kid's meal portion.  Seriously, the chicken tenders were no longer than 2 inches long and he only had about 4 or 5 of them.  I said something and she brought a few more for him but - what was she thinking?  I would never have served a plate like that to a paying customer!   We have a saying at the Comic Strip where I work, "if you wouldn't want it yourself, don't serve it to the customers."

Anyway, despite the food, we had a great time visiting and were mostly able to drive without issue.  There was an accident causing traffic back-up right before our exit but I just took the Buena Vista exit and then took the back way home on Turkey Lake Drive.

Hoping for a more restful week ahead.

The Worst Day
